launched in 2005, nicholas is an eponymous label created for the stylish contemporary professional lady of modern times.
nic wong, the creative brainchild behind the label,
has always been accredited for his meticulous attention to geometrically quirky details
in his understated designs for apparels and accessories.
the crisp clean lines of his designs are typical of his sensitivity towards technical construction.
having pursued his studies and dabbling in various design industries such as graphic and interior design, nic has developed design sensibilities with the juxtaposition between contrasting elements flaunted on a highly accessible monochromatic palette augmented with bold and vibrant hues.
in 2001, nic bagged the atelier east design excellence award for fashion design and scored a scholarship to pursue his studies in fashion design with
royal melbourne institute of technology (rmit). upon graduation, he was voted as one of singapore’s top ten fashion graduates and
was awarded with a merit award under the category of ‘best menswear collection’.
subsequently, nic emerged winner of the mercedes benz asia fashion award (singapore) in 2004 and has been regarded as one of the first quintessential local designer to pioneer grounds in the local fashion scene as well as to venture abroad after he returned from working in london as an assistant fashion designer.
his self-named label, nicholas, has two standalone boutiques in singapore and has collections stocked in multi-label boutiques far and beyond the local shores,
namely in new york, chicago, shanghai and kuala lumpur.
apart from his main designing work, nic is often invited by local art schools to conduct lectures, as an external examiner and judge for school graduations
as well as an acting mentor for up and coming local designers part of the fashion incubator project. with all the credentials behind nicholas,
this label is set to break grounds internationally as nic desires to develop his signature contemporary style and to continually deliver designs of distinctive workmanship.
as nic puts it, “a woman should feel beautiful in whatever she wears and I make clothes with this in mind constantly".
